Had there been less concentration of greenhouse gases, there would have been no global warming. The progress of civilization, industrialization and globalization has led to a higher concentration of greenhouse gases. Look at China, USA, India and Russia; they together accumulated more than 50 percent carbon dioxide emissions in the world in the year 2011 according to the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. The environment can become safe if these countries lower their carbon dioxide emissions, thereby checking global warming.
Global warming is causing climate change as glaciers have shrunk; ice is forming on rivers, and there are noticeable shift in plants and animals community boundaries. New York Times reported the disappearing number of moose population in North America, which was linked to eroding winter and ascent of warm climate.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts that an increase in temperature of 1-3 degrees Celsius will benefit some regions and harm other regions. Europe will experience an increase in intensity of flash floods, reduced snow cover and winter tourism, and extensive destruction of species. It is time for citizens worldwide to check global warming and accompanying climate change.
