The Native Americans still inhabit parts of the Grand Canyon. Since Europeans have been known for their explorations around the world, a Spanish explorer was the first person to visit the Grand Canyon in the 16th century. Now this beautiful canyon is visited by tourists from around the globe.
With the persistent efforts of American Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, the Grand Canyon became a US National Park in 1919. The area around Grand Canyon is rich in Uranium; so there have been numerous efforts to mine Uranium from the region. However, the US government has not permitted mining in the Grand Canyon area to preserve the natural habitat of the region. It is due to the collective efforts of the people and the government that the Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
