On Diwali, the people in India decorate their homes with electric lights and candles; so Diwali is also called the festival of lights. Like most Indian festivals, Diwali is marked by the tradition of exchange of gifts between family members, relatives, friends and neighbors.
Though the spirits soar high on Diwali, explosive firecrackers make the air polluted too, thereby increasing the suffering of children and the elderly who are prone to respiratory allergies.
Let's hope Diwali continues to unite people around the world with its message of eliminating darkness and evil. May goodness prevail eventually!
The team at UPP wishes everybody a Happy Diwali today.
