Mahatma is a Hindi word meaning a great soul. The original name of Mahatma Gandhi was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Because of his practice of the principles of truth and non-violence, he was able to win freedom for us from the powerful imperialist, British forces. Several other nations soon attained freedom by getting inspiration from the success story of India's freedom movement led by Mahatma Gandhi.
It is time for nations to recall the values of truth and non-violence for living with love and peace. Living truthfully means to be truthful to one's self; if this is done, the virtues of humanity are natural consequences. Non-violence may be practiced successfully by all nations when families and individual citizens practice it wholeheartedly. Perhaps the use of sweet tongue may avert bitterness and aggressive attitude. Also, a human may have to let the ego of mind leave once and for all.
Is it not sad to note when some teachers use violence against children in some schools of India? Is it not sad to note when some students use violence against teachers in some American schools? How nice it would be if every school across the world puts a notice prohibiting violence in the school! Perhaps it would be a way to express our love for a true humanitarian soul, Mahatma Gandhi.
