This poem was accepted by the United Nations for International Year of the Potato in 2008 to disseminate information to the masses about the importance of consuming potatoes.
Hello! I am an Earthly potato,
consumed in a palace as well as a ghetto.
Around the world, with crop rotation, I am sown,
round the year, as a tuber, I am avidly grown.
Availability, price and value for nutrition:
so I am the staple food in many a nation.
I am rich in starch, minerals and vitamins,
my dietary fiber prevents cancerous sins.
I am baked, chipped and hashed brown,
when served, I removed hunger and frown.
Whenever I am called for noble service,
I shall lovingly feed those desirous bellies.
