The Indian tea is popular worldwide because of its distinct aroma and freshness giving you a feeling of Royal class and majestic life. Although Darjeeling Tea that comes from the tea estates in the hill station of Darjeeling of Himalayan mountains is well-known among the tea-lovers, there are several other types of tea with delectable flavor. When you have a cup of fragrant tea in a relaxed ambience, such as the Atrium of Imperial Hotel in New Delhi, you really cherish every sip of Royal tea made specially for you.
Picture
The Atrium is a spacious verandah inside the Imperial Hotel in New Delhi. The interior designers keep on changing its decor and the flower arrangement to make every visit of frequent tourists contrastingly appealing. The roses, the orchids, the tulips, and other flowers adorn the ambience of Atrium. The flowers are placed in stylish vases that provide a natural look to them. It seems as if you are sitting in a garden secluded from the noise and pollution of the metropolitan city.

By the time your aromatic tea is served by the courteous waiter, you can gaze at the high ceiling, which is nearly 25 feet above the ground level. A high ceiling was a typical feature of the British-style buildings from the colonial era. Residential and official buildings usually have a ceiling height of 10 feet in New Delhi; so you feel plenty of space around you in 3-dimensions.

The cutlery is also imported, mostly from France or Italy. You can prepare your kind of tea after mixing boiled tea, milk, and sugar to your liking. To enjoy the aroma of tea as it is, it is advisable to leave milk and sugar. You want to enjoy the aroma of tea with every sip and of the vapor rising from your tea cup. It is truly a memorable and delightful moment; so come to the Atrium of Imperial Hotel in New Delhi and enjoy your space in the company of aromatic tea.

The United States of America is a great country with not only countless inventions and discoveries credited to its pioneering researchers and entrepreneurs but also with beautiful geographical features that attract tourists from across the world. Grand Canyon is one such natural wonder in the USA.
Picture
The Grand Canyon is located in the American state of Arizona and has Colorado river flowing through its valleys. It is believed that this canyon is about 17 million years old. The rocks surrounding the Grand Canyon are contrastingly colorful and create an awe among the spectators.

The Native Americans still inhabit parts of the Grand Canyon. Since Europeans have been known for their explorations around the world, a Spanish explorer was the first person to visit the Grand Canyon in the 16th century. Now this beautiful canyon is visited by tourists from around the globe.

With the persistent efforts of American Presidents like Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, the Grand Canyon became a US National Park in 1919. The area around Grand Canyon is rich in Uranium; so there have been numerous efforts to mine Uranium from the region. However, the US government has not permitted mining in the Grand Canyon area to preserve the natural habitat of the region. It is due to the collective efforts of the people and the government that the Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Making a Delicious Pizza Sandwich

Picture
When it comes to cooking, everyone has one’s own stock of recipes. It is not only because of different ways of doing things but also because of different tastes. The same may be said when it comes to making a pizza sandwich. If ever, you wish to have a pizza, but your pocket or the occasion does not permit, do not worry! You can make your very own pizza sandwich – it is easy-to-make, delicious, hygienic, healthy, and tastes like a real pizza!

First, get the sandwich topping ready according to your mood, taste and requirement. Cut into small pieces – onion/ tomato/ capsicum/ cucumber – whatever you would like to have. You may also boil and put corns, if you wish to. Next, put into the salad-mix, a pinch of salt, pepper and chilly powder.

Now, take a slice of bread and with the help of a butter knife, spread pizza sauce over it, followed by cheese-spread. After mixing the topping well, put it over the bread slice. Then, grate some mozzarella cheese and spread it evenly. You may put some butter to your liking. Cover it with another slice of bread.

Microwave the sandwich for two minutes or so depending upon the type of microwave. You may use a grill to get a crispy pizza sandwich. Observe the sandwich as it is being cooked and when you feel that it is ready, take it out and let it cool. Enjoy, with or without ketchup, the taste of a real pizza as you bite the sandwich. Share the delicious recipe with your friends!

A Walk on the Beach is Good for Health

1/19/2014

Picture
During cold weather in the northern hemisphere, people travel to the warm coastal regions to celebrate New Year, to get Vitamin D from the Sun, and to relax after a hectic work in the preceding year. Having a walk on the beach is healthy for you when you enjoy the heat of the Sun and strengthen the muscles.

The beach sand near water is wet and dense; so walking on this part of beach does not require much effort. It is very relaxing and enjoyable to walk bare-footed on the wet sand.

As you move away from the water, the sand becomes dry, coarse, less dense, and hot. Walking on this part of the beach requires considerable effort because the sand is coarse and the feet can go inside the pile of loosely bound sand. It is a good exercise for the muscles in calf, thigh, abdomen, and waist regions of the body. You can burn good amount of calories by walking on this part of the beach having coarse sand. Also, this sand is devoid of water from the sea and gets heated by the Sun. So when you walk, your feet also get the warmth from the sand, thereby giving your feet heat treatment in addition to acupressure.

Enjoy your holidays and walk on the beach whether you are alone or in the company of your sweetheart. You will feel rejuvenated and will be able carry on with your work efficiently after taking a walk on the beach.

Picture
The London Eye, a giant observation wheel situated along the banks of River Thames, attracts tourists from around the world. A half-an-hour experience through the London Eye provides breathtaking views of the beautiful city of London, just the way our eyes open for us to see this wonderful world.

The tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, the London Eye has thirty two glass capsules, each of which lifts up twenty five people at a time and enables them to climb above the city. The capsules are not overstuffed, so you get ample space to roam around and enjoy. No, it’s not a ride like the one you would find in a carnival; it takes a single round, but this round is worth the price!

As your capsule takes off the flight, a panoramic view of the city unfolds before your eyes. A 360 degree view of London lets you have a glimpse of the major attractions of the city including Big Ben, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Buckingham Palace, and much more. From high above, roads, cars and trees look so tiny – almost like little toys over the map of London.

The London Eye also provides private capsules like the Champagne Capsule for special celebrations. For a romantic date with your beloved, go for the Cupid’s Capsule. The night view is spectacular as the whole city is illuminated, and you get lost in its wonder. All in all, if you get to visit London, do not miss the opportunity to experience the London Eye with your eye.

The Joy of Giving

12/28/2013

Picture
You experience joy when you complete a task, or meet a friend, or eat your favorite ice-cream, but the joy that comes with giving is exceptional. The act of giving brings immense satisfaction to the heart because it is the joy of gifting happiness.

We usually feel sad about little things that we do not possess, but if we look around, there are many people who need happiness more than we do. A gift can be in any form, and it is most valued when it is most needed. There’s joy in giving a hug to somebody who feels alone, in giving a smile to someone who’s unhappy, in giving food to a hungry person, and in giving warm clothes to a poor child shivering in cold. Just give a try, and you will realize the worth of your little effort.

The joy of giving also enhances feelings of self-worth. When we do something for others, we discover our intrinsic nature, hidden abilities and talents. It helps us to realize the meaning of life and takes away its emptiness, and we embark on a journey to self-actualization. It makes us realize that we, too, can make a difference. Gradually, we leave behind our fears and start feeling more secure.

When we give, we must not expect in return. Instead, we should realize that whatever we give is a gift from someone else to us. If you think over how you have become who you are today, you will realize the importance of gifts you have got from others- your family, teachers and friends.

Music Soothes the Soul

12/25/2013

Picture
Music is the melody of life without which life would be very dull. Nature itself creates music that has the potential to unite the world in harmony. The sweet chirping of birds in the morning creates music, giving a wonderful start to a new day. Besides, the splashing of raindrops and the hustling of leaves swinging in the gentle breeze are worth noticeable.

Music is one’s partner at all times and places. Whether we are in a garden for a walk or in an aerobics class, music is the best companion. Even complex mathematical problems become so easy when listening to songs. Sitting at home and watching music channels on television is among the best leisure activities. Music rejuvenates the soul and relieves the mind as we tend to forget all our tension and anxiety.

Music not only sets the wrong things right but also makes the good things better. Music possesses the ability to express what our words fail to say. We dedicate songs because we can relate to them as they reflect our inner thoughts and outer circumstances. There’s music for every mood, whether we are in high spirits or lost in deep sentiments.

There’s music for every occasion; in fact, a special occasion is incomplete without music. What a joy it is to sit in a group and sing songs and dance together! Music is magical, as it uplifts the mood and elevates the soul. It is a universal language known to all, spoken by all, and loved by all although its forms may vary.

Congratulations to Sachin Tendulkar

11/17/2013

Picture
Sachin Tendulkar, noted Indian cricketer, has been awarded with the highest civilian honor from India, the Bharat Ratna. At the age of 40, he is now the youngest recipient of this prestigious award and joins the elite club of other Bharat Ratna awardees, such as Lata Mangeshkar, Rajiv Gandhi, Amartya Sen, Mother Teresa, Rajendra Prasad, Nelson Mandela, and others.

Having several records to his credit, Sachin has scored the maximum runs in test matches as well as in one day internationals, and has scored the maximum centuries in test matches as well as in one day internationals. He also played the maximum number of test matches, 200, and the maximum number of one day internationals, 463.

When Sachin announced his retirement from cricket, his fans were stunned because they wanted to see him play more. It is the law of nature: We all retire one day. His mere presence kept the team motivated because he had the ability to win matches single-handedly.

The award has rightly gone to a sportsman who played the game of cricket with true sportsmanship. He was not only a great batsman but was also a charismatic bowler and fielder. An ardent devotee of Bhagwan Sathya Sai Baba, Sachin Tendulkar shall continue to inspire emerging cricketers.

Understanding Geography and Its Modern Applications

11/9/2013

Picture
Our world is a geometric space. Every place on it is ascribed to some location-specific attributes defined both in absolute and relative terms. Absolute location is defined in terms of geographical co-ordinate system using latitudes and longitudes. Relative location is locating a place with reference to other attributes. For example, the absolute location of Washington D.C. is 38 degrees north and 77 degrees west. Its relative location is on the northern side of Potomac River, around 30 miles south-east of Baltimore.

We are no longer in the era of locating places on Earth with a piece of paper map. The quantitative revolution in Geography has brought about distinct advancements in this field. Geomatics is an emerging sub-field in Geography, which applies traditional spatial and cartographic techniques to computer-based applications, such as GIS (Geographic Information System), RS (Remote Sensing), GPS (Global Positioning System), etc. GIS is a system that deals with the storage of spatial information for automatic retrieval by computer. Nearly all map-making is done with the help of computer-assisted GIS software. Remote Sensing deals with obtaining geographic information through measurements made from a certain distance. This remotely sensed information may be in the form of aerial photograph or satellite imagery. GPS is a satellite information system giving information about location and time to a user in all weather conditions.

Development of these techniques has proved immensely beneficial to mankind. GIS, now-a-days, is widely applied from road networking to natural resource management. You can quickly prepare an open street map with the help of GIS. If you need to identify the exact location and time of that place, GPS will serve the purpose.

Remote sensing has wide applications in hazard assessment, environmental monitoring, land degradation and crop ecology. The Northern Research Institute Alta, Norway has launched an Unmanned Aerial System for research on Remote Sensing and cryospheric measurements. Drones are very good examples of unmanned aerial vehicles used for military and other civil operation services.

Happy Diwali

11/3/2013

Diwali is the most popular festival in India, which has its origin to almost 10,000 years ago when Lord Rama returned to his kingdom of Ayodhya after an exile of 14 years. According to myths, Lord Rama, who is one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, had defeated the demon king from Lanka known as Ravana; Lanka is nowadays called Sri Lanka.

On Diwali, the people in India decorate their homes with electric lights and candles; so Diwali is also called the festival of lights. Like most Indian festivals, Diwali is marked by the tradition of exchange of gifts between family members, relatives, friends and neighbors.

Though the spirits soar high on Diwali, explosive firecrackers make the air polluted too, thereby increasing the suffering of children and the elderly who are prone to respiratory allergies.

Let's hope Diwali continues to unite people around the world with its message of eliminating darkness and evil. May goodness prevail eventually!

The team at UPP wishes everybody a Happy Diwali today.

Clothes are certainly the first thing to think about when you dress for an occasion. Accessories follow next. But when it comes to accessories, a necklace can make all the difference. A necklace gives your neck an enticing look. Wearing a necklace that suits you the best can make you look awesome for a formal party or an informal gathering.

Professional jewelers of today make sure that there is a necklace for everyone. The choice of necklace depends on the color and style of the clothes and also on your mood. Not only should the necklace match your outfits, it should also match your personality. For instance, bright beaded necklaces would generally be preferred by fun-loving girls. The pendants in a necklace may have precious gem stones or diamonds.

In any jewellery shop, you will find an infinite number of necklaces of different designs and colors. Pick up the necklace that best suits your neck shape. If you have a long neck, go for Princess or Opera necklaces that are long, covering substantial part of your chest. Short necks adorn solid and heavy necklaces that usually stick-on at the bottom of the neck.

Let us celebrate this Diwali with beauty and happiness. All the women out there: Go and get yourself a stylish necklace! All the men out there: Gift an elegant necklace to your wife, sister, or your daughter! A neck glitters when a necklace hugs it. Isn't it?

Understanding Global Warming and Accompanying Climate Change

11/1/2013

Picture
Global Warming and Climate Change - these two words have spread almost like a wildfire around the world. The deepest concern for an environmentalist is global warming, which is defined as an increase in the mean surface temperature of Earth and its atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect. Due to an increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, etc. in the atmosphere, there is an envelope in the atmosphere that traps the outgoing radiation and reflects it back to the earth. In this way, it increases the surface temperature of Earth and causes global warming.

Had there been less concentration of greenhouse gases, there would have been no global warming. The progress of civilization, industrialization and globalization has led to a higher concentration of greenhouse gases. Look at China, USA, India and Russia; they together accumulated more than 50 percent carbon dioxide emissions in the world in the year 2011 according to the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. The environment can become safe if these countries lower their carbon dioxide emissions, thereby checking global warming.

Global warming is causing climate change as glaciers have shrunk; ice is forming on rivers, and there are noticeable shift in plants and animals community boundaries. New York Times reported the disappearing number of moose population in North America, which was linked to eroding winter and ascent of warm climate.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts that an increase in temperature of 1-3 degrees Celsius will benefit some regions and harm other regions. Europe will experience an increase in intensity of flash floods, reduced snow cover and winter tourism, and extensive destruction of species. It is time for citizens worldwide to check global warming and accompanying climate change.

Liberating Yourself from Ignorance

10/23/2013

An individual acquires personality and character through parents, upbringing and experiences of life. However, it is personal choice whether to be content with one’s beliefs and opinions, and remain ignorant, or to seek out knowledge, and unveil the inherent, metaphysical spiritual identity. Ignorance of truth is the cause of our suffering and makes us blind to our shortcomings and illusions.

Almost everybody suffers from ignorance. False beliefs are the manifestations of ignorance, and they result in restlessness and disharmony. However, if desirous, you can get rid of ignorance and attain peace within yourself and the universe. The process of liberating yourself from ignorance involves 2 steps – analyzing and taking action.

The first task for liberating yourself from ignorance is to analyze your behavior that portrays the presence of ignorance. Ignorant people talk too much, show rigidity in their beliefs, tend to be jealous of success of other people and have superiority complex. They condemn quickly but forgive slowly. They are always conscious of their status and reputation in the society. They are slaves to their own thoughts as they lack perspective and refuse to question their own ideas.

The second step for liberating yourself from ignorance is to take appropriate action. Some of the important steps to conquer ignorance are – reducing ego, learning about the spirit dwelling inside yourself and practising meditation. Showing compassion toward others helps reduce ego. Meditation checks negative thoughts through control of breathing. Though an arduous journey, unrelenting persistence promises liberation from misery and illumination of the path of wisdom.

How to Maintain Young, Healthy Skin

10/19/2013

Picture
Beautiful skin is the most appealing part of the human body as it attracts others toward yourself and characterizes your well-being. You can also develop and maintain young, healthy skin that glows and makes you noticeable among your peers by providing appropriate nourishment and care.

Dermatologists advise that the best way to maintain a healthy, glowing skin is to protect it from external skin-corrosive agents, such as intense sunlight, polluted air and hard water. Considering the contemporary lifestyle and environment, is it possible to eliminate deleterious agents completely? Of course, no! So there are natural ways to keep your skin young, healthy and radiant.

The first and foremost requirement is to drink plenty of water, at least 8 glasses a day. Since human body is composed of 67 percent water, you must have an optimum water intake. You can do so by drinking juices that also have essential nutrients like Vitamins A and C. By having a variety of juices from tomatoes, oranges, strawberries, pomegranates, grapes, cranberries, and apples, the body gets its required quantity of water and nutrients, which stimulate the growth of new cells and collagen fibers, thereby providing elasticity to skin.

Some women may start developing premature wrinkles, primarily due to unhealthy lifestyle, intake of junk food and addiction to smoking, alcohol and drugs. It is important to take control of your life by practicing a regular routine, doing exercises and eating a balanced diet. Exercising helps improve blood circulation to the face and head areas, thereby removing toxins from skin.

Natural beauty packs also give your skin a shining look, or you can prepare one such pack on your own as well. Take turmeric and gram flour in equal proportions, and make a paste by adding yogurt or milk into it. Apply evenly on your face and body; wash it off until dry with lukewarm water, and gently scrub in circular motion. If you have acne problems, use clean water instead of milk, and add sandalwood powder to it.

Shahnaz Hussain’s ShaDew Turmeric Pre-Wash Cream is another natural herbal formula that protects your skin from aging and drying caused by exposure to excessive chlorinated water. So wake up, and don’t be lazy in taking care of your skin because your physical looks give the first and lasting impression!

Traveling is incomplete without photography. Since a mobile phone with a powerful lens works as an excellent camera too, one does not need to carry a separate camera. But wouldn’t it be even better to have an instant print of that clicked photo?

Polaroid cameras have been there in the market for quite some time to get instant photographs; however, they did not have the feature to replicate the same photo. LG has introduced a wireless Pocket Printer that prints photos from a laptop or smartphone without any fuss.

A handy device, this printer operates on battery and is compatible with Android and Apple devices. The Pocket Photo Printer does not use ink cartridge; instead, the special paper that the printer uses to print the photos is full of colors under a white top layer. When passed through the printer, the paper gets heated, and colors come out in the printed photo.

All you need to do to use this printer is to download a dedicated application on your mobile and connect the mobile and printer using Bluetooth. Voila! Your printer is ready to print the photographs from your mobile. The icing on the cake is that you can tweak and edit the photos, decorate them and add dates too before printing!

10/16/2013

Picture
Daal - a Hindi name for pulses and Makhani - the Hindi name for buttered, together form the popular North Indian dish known as Daal Makhani, bringing gleam in the eye, water in the mouth and appetite in the tummy. This sumptuous dish makes its way to the main course in almost all parties in North India and is also widely served in restaurants.

Ingredients: The preparation starts long before actual cooking. Take 1 cup whole black pulses and 4 tablespoons of red kidney beans in a large pot. Wash thoroughly and soak them in water for 8 hours. Chop 2 inches ginger, 6 garlic cloves, 2 onions and 3 tomatoes. Prepare 1 teaspoon of coriander seed powder and 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 2-3 black peppercorns and cloves, a small cinnamon stick and 1 cup of cream.

Cooking: Add salt to taste in the pot of soaked pulses and red kidney beans and pressure cook till they become totally soft. Now heat 4 tablespoons of butter in a deep pan and add cumin seeds, peppercorn, cinnamon and cloves. When they leave aroma, add ginger, garlic and onion; sauté till golden. Add tomatoes and coriander seeds powder and sauté. Then add the pot contents - cooked pulses and red kidney beans to the fried mixture, and let the entire contents simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes. Pour cream to get a rich texture. Your Daal Makhani is ready to serve!

Serving: Garnish Daal Makhani with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with Naan/ Paratha (baked Indian bread) along with onion salad. As the gravy of Daal Makhani gets thicker when kept to stand for a few hours, the dish is more titillating to the taste buds on the following day. So relish it today with your guests and enjoy it even on the next day with your family members because love gets deeper with time.

Here are excerpts from the poem "Autobiography of a Potato" from the book "Autobiographies of Silent Creatures" sold online at http://www.buymostwantedbooks.com/place-your-order.html.

This poem was accepted by the United Nations for International Year of the Potato in 2008 to disseminate information to the masses about the importance of consuming potatoes.

Hello! I am an Earthly potato,
consumed in a palace as well as a ghetto.
...

Around the world, with crop rotation, I am sown,
round the year, as a tuber, I am avidly grown.
...

Availability, price and value for nutrition:
so I am the staple food in many a nation.
...

I am rich in starch, minerals and vitamins,
my dietary fiber prevents cancerous sins.
...

I am baked, chipped and hashed brown,
when served, I removed hunger and frown.
...

Whenever I am called for noble service,
I shall lovingly feed those desirous bellies.

How a Smartphone Benefits Me Most

A smartphone is no longer a luxury mobile phone; it has become a necessity in the age of globalization. It has a high-tech mobile operating system, making it a user-friendly gadget. I have been using my smartphone for the past two years, and I am completely addicted to it. Let me tour you through the wonders of smartphone and how it is a worthy buy for the businessmen and the common masses.

The most distinctive feature of a smartphone is that it enables the use of wireless communications, such as Skype, through which you can enable live video chat for business and other purposes. Parallel to Skype, there is another free feature known as WhatsApp, which can be used for sending free text, audio and video messages. Then for a traveller, a smartphone is a useful navigating device as it is equipped with the GPS facility.

I am a voracious reader; my smartphone has helped me to buy plenty of e-books from online websites, such as Buy Most Wanted Books. Sometimes when I get too tired, I take out time to download sensational music from YouTube to lighten my senses.

These are some of the features that have made me hooked-on to my smartphone. Gartner Report shows that smartphones’ sales hit a record number of 207.7 million globally in the fourth quarter of 2012, which was 38.3 percent more than the previous year. I am one of these buyers of the smartphone category of mobile phones and continue to reap numerous accompanying services and benefits.
